The Irish bread industry came together today at Bord Bia in Dublin, for the launch of National Bread Week, which is celebrating the heritage, quality and versatility of bread. The campaign is calling on the public to ‘Love Your Loaf,’ as research shows that many people are confused about the benefits of bread and are unaware of some of the great traditions associated with Irish bread.

Dermot Kelly, President of the Flour, Bakers and Confectioners Association (FCBA), which has organised the campaign, outlined what is planned for the week – including a promotion with RTÉ and an animated video all about bread.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Mary McCreery, a registered dietitian, clarified some of the common misconceptions people have of bread and Irish TV chef Paul Rankin shared his favourite recipes and memories of bread.

The industry wide campaign is sponsored by Shackletons Milling, Andrew Ingredients, Allied Flour Mills, Andrews Flour Mills, Daly Foods Ireland, James A Finlay, Cloverhill Foods, Gem Pack Limited, Puratos, J.E.O Brien Ingredients, Zeelandia, Irish Bakels, Brookfood Processing Equipment, Irish Flexible Packaging, Macphie, Select Foods, DCL Yeast Ltd, JDS Foods, Calor Gas, Flogas, New Brittain Oils, Dawn Foods, A B Mauri, Mono Equipment, Valeo Foods, Ireks, Kells Wholemeal and J.C. Bakers across Ireland are taking part in the campaign, which also has widespread retail support.
