As part of National Bread Week, we’re challenging bakers to create the largest ever Irish soda bread.

National Bread Week takes place between 13th and 18th October 2014 and we’re encouraging everyone to celebrate all that is great about Irish bread, using the call to action ‘Love Your Loaf’.

Bakers, retailers and wholesalers across Ireland will be coming together to remind consumers of all the benefits of bread – its taste, value and versatility, as well as the part it plays in a healthy balanced diet. National Bread Week will give the Irish bread industry an opportunity to run on-pack promotions, special offers and in store events to celebrate bread and boost sales too.

We’re now calling on bakers participating in National Bread Week to have a go at making the biggest soda bread possible. FCBA President Patrick McCloskey has already pledged that he will be attempting to ‘rise’ to the challenge.

Patrick said: “Irish bread has a fantastic heritage and soda bread of course plays a big part in this. What better way to show how fantastic Irish bread is than by having a whole week devoted to it! I’m delighted to accept the challenge of baking the largest ever soda bread and I hope other bakers will have a go too. It will all help raise awareness of Irish bread and remind everyone to ‘Love Your Loaf.”

Will you take up the challenge?
